Memory Art Quilts

Come learn the process of making a small art quilt that tells a story in words, photographs and embellishments. Participants will bring copies of photographs of a family member or a person of interest as well as related mementoes. The chosen image will be the starting point for the story of the quilt. Participants will create narratives and words relating to the focal point and will learn how to prepare a hand sewn quilt top, integrating scrap fabrics, photographs, embellishment and narrative. Participants will learn composition, color choices, and simple embroidery stitches, putting together a quilt sandwich and binding it or using a stitch to finish. You will leave with an art quilt close to finished and the skills to complete it on your own time at home. It would be helpful for participants to have previous sewing experience.
