Image Statement: Reflections on a series of sessions designed to tap into my unconscious in the way that dreams do, this cloth and paper accordion includes snippets of text and descriptions of imagery that were recorded during the sessions by the therapist. Textured snippets extracted from a series of sessions that were designed to tap into my unconscious in the way that dreams do, this cloth and paper accordion includes bits of text and descriptions of imagery that were recorded during my sessions. The accordion text block is created with layers of screen printed, translucent Japanese papers pasted to pre-painted canvas panels. The panels are attached one to the next using concealed wooden rods. Extensive hand and machine stitching throughout make both the front and back side textured and visually lively. Housed in a custom drop-spine box with a collage of treated plant specimens stitched to copper sheeting, then topped with clear plexiglass. Eyes Wide Shut is constructed, housed and presented to allow for multiple display and reading options.
