Artist: Jill Goldstein
Title: Empire of Pain
Attribution: Empire of Pain, 2024, Jill Goldstein
Year: 2024
Materials: cotton and silk thread and antique wire lace on linen
Dimensions: 15" x 20"
Image Statement: I experimented with needle lace as a way to convey suffering, caring, and hope. Lace is both concealing and revealing. Historically, lace has been cherished and coveted. To me, this felt like a sad and fitting metaphor for the opioid crisis and its web of destruction.
