Together, through a pen-pal collaboration, we build abstract embroideries by responding intuitively to each other’s mark making. Embroidery is a medium that allows us to work in unity and experiment with a variety of techniques. We use felt as our matrix, covering the fabric with applique and adornments until vibrantly full. Our work is known to be colorful, abundant, and packed with layers of texture and embellishment. The responsive mark-making guides our aesthetic to be dense and clustered, often with little negative space. Finished pieces are the result of our spontaneous process - disrupting one another to swap works and improvise what is added next.
