Inherent Vice, 2023
altered found quilt (Postage Stamp pattern), wood, tarpaper, vintage lace and trims, foam, found plastic plants and toys 29 x 29 x 5"
Inherent vice is the tendency of a material to self-destruct due to its intrinsic internal characteristics. The mordants used in dyeing black cloth can cause it to deteriorate faster than the other fabrics in a quilt. Here I referenced Victorian mourning customs and repaired/altered this lovely yet doomed quilt fragment.

Yoyo Chico Dazzleship, 2023
altered found coverlet (Yoyo pattern), polyester, batting, foam 45 x 27 x 27"
This puffy monolith utilizes an altered yoyo quilt--definitely one of my least favorite gaudy quilt/coverlet patterns. I was thinking about how as women get older and perhaps a bit bigger, loud patterns and oversized fashions are marketed to us to hide our forms.
