Thrifted fabric, wire fencing Size small
The intense energy of squeezing and twisting wire fencing creates the underlying structure. Repetitive wrapping of secondhand fabric creates a lush, fluffy surface. The two bring together elements of stability and containment (suggested by the wire fencing), and flexibility and vulnerability (suggested by the fabric). These qualities allude to the paradox of our lives, freedom and restraint, mortality and eternity.

Fabric wrapping on wire: Fabric purchased from store display sale, used for a decade as a tablecloth for parties, finally cut into strips to wrap one of my favored materials--wire fencing. Fencing alludes to containment of property, plant life or animal life, and can imply either protection or confinement, sometimes simultaneously.
