House on Fire, 2022
Watercolor, graphite and embroidery on paper 9.5 x 12 inches
The Supreme Court’s devastating decision to overturn Roe v Wade impacts not just the young women who are most immediately affected, but also the older generations of women who fought so hard for equal rights and control of our own reproductive choices. A house form brings to mind personal boundaries. It isn't too great a stretch to draw a line between our feminist history and the idea that the Supreme Court's decision on Roe is akin to burning down someone else's house.

Eroded Boundaries, 2022
Watercolor, graphite and embroidery on paper 9.5 x 12 inches
Much of our identity lies in our autonomy. The Supreme Court's overturn of Roe v Wade in the summer of 2022 is an assault on a woman's right to decide for herself whether or not to adopt the life-changing role (identity) of mother. The iconic house shape, a symbol of domesticity, is repeated and strung together to evoke a fence, signifying the Court's decision as a breach of personal boundaries.
