This piece portrays a couple in the upheaval of an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, which became apparent when I sliced through, cutting away at the fabric, destroying the image, and then reassembling it.

The repetitive act of unraveling and then attaching each weft and warp of thread to string her like a drum, reflected my grief for the death of a grandchild.

I created a last portrait in thread-on-fabric. After I made two ink-on-paper prints, one became warp and one became weft which I reintegrated as a woven sheet: losing her and finding her again.

This process of destroying and then rebuilding expands my reflections on the opposites of dividing and uniting; knowing and unknowing; stasis and movement.

I cut two prints-on-paper of my fabric original into strips to create warp and weft, and then reintegrated them into a woven sheet. The weave jumps giving a sense of movement.
