Woven Structures: Interpreting the Classics
This workshop is a group study of woven structures and patterns and their many possibilities. We’ll talk about how to identify the “rules” of a structure, and then twist those rules to make something all our own. After we cover the basics of weaving, each participant will set up a loom with a different draft, then you’ll get to weave samples on every loom. This classic round-robin setup is an incredible way to learn how to get the most out of each warp. Structures may include lace weaves, honeycomb, waffle weave, block double weave, corduroy, summer and winter, etc. Our emphasis is learning how to create unique weaves with traditional structures using experimentation and exploration. You will finish class with a portfolio of samples/small works and a collection of weaving notes, an invaluable resource for future projects!
