Important Note: All sites that don’t have SSL security certificates (addresses that don’t begin with https) will be marked as ‘insecure’ by Google Chrome and eventually Firefox. As a result, sites in our membership directory that don’t have https in their addresses will either not show up when clicked or return an error message saying that the site isn’t secure. This is a good reminder to get an SSL certificate for your site. There are several free SSL certificate providers such as Let’s Encrypt. Contact your webhost for more information.

Code of Conduct
The Surface Design Association (SDA) seeks to build an equitable community and foster encouragement and mutual respect where all feel welcome.
Equity, Access, and Integration are key tenets of every part of SDA. In partnership with the EAI Committee, we hold space for and amplify the voices of historically underrepresented communities in the fiber and textile art world.
In order to create a safe, welcoming environment for all, we expect all members, speakers, sponsors, staff, board members, and volunteers to:
- Act with integrity, kindness, and honesty when communicating online and in person.
- Be respectful of other people’s views and experiences and refrain from personal attacks.
Unacceptable behaviors include (but are not limited to):
- Discrimination – the unjust or prejudicial treatment of others based on identity.
- Harassment – intimidation, stalking, disruption, persistent and unwanted attention
- Personal attacks or offensive verbal comments
SDA is primarily an online community. As such, we take special pride and care in our communications. Any member in violation of SDA’s community standards for integrity and respect may be removed from SDA, with their membership revoked. Promoting or publishing work or writing that is in violation of SDA’s community standards for integrity and respect is cause for immediate dismissal.
If you need to report unacceptable behavior, please contact info@surfacedesign.org. Please note that SDA prioritizes historically underrepresented people’s safety and well-being.
SDA’s Position on Freedom of Expression
As an organization we believe, freedom of expression and freedom of the press are fundamental rights, and the free flow of ideas is a key driver of vibrant societies and human progress (UNESCO). And while we may not necessarily share the views of our artists and writers, intervening with or removing content can easily lead to censorship, a practice we do not support at SDA. Our goal is not for all readers to agree with all the content in the Journal. We know there are a variety of challenging issues with varied viewpoints. However, we hope that our readers approach each issue with an open mind and learn from each other, and in return, strengthen and celebrate our diverse community.
