Definition

Surface Design encompasses the coloring, patterning, and structuring of fiber and fabric. This involves creative exploration of processes such as dyeing, painting, printing, stitching, embellishing, quilting, weaving, knitting, felting, and papermaking.

Mission

The mission of Surface Design Association is to increase awareness, understanding, and appreciation of textiles in the art and design communities as well as the general public.

We inspire creativity, encourage innovation, and further the rich tradition of textile arts through publications, electronic media, exhibitions, conferences, educational opportunities, and financial support.

Interested visitors are invited to apply for membership in the Surface Design Association.
