SURFACE
DESIGN ASSOCIATION GRANTS (1/08)
The
Surface Design Association offers two types of grants to individuals
who are SDA members:
•
personal development grants (2 grant cycles per year)
•
small event grants (4 grant cycles per year)
The
amount of funds available for grants varies from year to year.
Please contact Bette Levy (bettelevy@aol.com)
if you intend to apply, to determine if grant monies are available.
Please
be sure to read the descriptions of both types of grants so
that you apply for the most appropriate grant. In writing
your application, be very specific and describe your project
in as much detail as possible and in terms readily understood
by others. Avoid jargon and flowery language. If you have
never written a grant, here are some books and a website that
can help you:
The Grantwriters Toolkit: Project Management and
Evaluation , Cheryl Carter New and James Aaron Quick,
Wiley & Sons, 2000
The Only Grant-Writing Book You'll Ever Need:
Top Grant Writers and Grant Givers Share their Secrets!
Ellen Karsh and Arlen Sue Fox. Caroll &
Graff, 2003
THE Everything Grant Writing Book: Create the
Perfect Proposal to Raise the Funds you Need, Judy Tremore
and Nancy Burke Smith. Adams Media Corporation, 2003

Budgets
should be well-fleshed out, including adequate line items
for your project so that reviewers will understand how the
project is being funded. Disregard of these suggestions may
result in your grant being denied.
